Frequently asked questions.

Do you offer direct billing?

Not at this time. We provide a receipt with all the information you need to submit the treatment under your extended benefits plan.

I am registered with most insurance providers but if you experience any issues, please contact me and I will do my best to resolve this!

Do you offer Deep Tissue Massage?

It is my view that “Deep Tissue” is often misleading as a treatment description and is most often used as a marketing term.

I can affect deeper tissues without using intense or painful pressure, and I can use specific techniques to release areas with a gentler but still effective approach. Providing a full treatment with intensely deep pressure is hard on my body and is not always more effective, in my opinion.

If you are still looking for an intensely deep/painful massage, I am probably not the right RMT for you but I am happy to refer out to colleagues that can better meet your needs!

This is my first massage ever! What can I expect?

I am so excited to introduce you to the awesome world of massage therapy!

There should be no surprises - I will conduct a thorough intake and assessment and explain all elements of the treatment before you get on the table.

Only the parts of your body being worked on will be uncovered, you can undress fully or keep all your clothes on - all is up to you.

I check in about pressure levels to ensure nothing is too painful or uncomfortable and treatment can always be modified or stopped as per your comfort level.

After your treatment, I will go over self-care recommendations and send you an insurance receipt.

Keep in mind, I do my best to maximize hands on time, but (as per the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario) your appointment time includes intake, assessment and self-care. That means in a 60 Minute treatment, you may not get 60 Minutes hands-on. If you would like more time on the table, please book a longer session!

Do I need to tip?

Thank you for the thought! I do not accept tips, as we are a healthcare profession and you wouldn’t tip your doctor, would you?

I do however always appreciate referrals (if you think I am the right fit for someone you know).

Do you treat pregnant/children/elderly/debilitated patients?

I can treat most patients, and I have additional training in Oncology Massage, Prenatal massage and I am comfortable working with elderly, frail and even palliative patients (in consultation with a medical professional, ideally).

Working with children is not generally a focus of my practice but I welcome all patients. I have previously treated patients as young as 14 years old.

If you have an infant or a toddler, I would likely refer to a colleague as that is not a population I have worked with before.

Is your practice accessible?

Yes, we are a generally accessibly space!

Origin Wellness is located on the first floor of the building at both their locations. We have a small ramp to allow for mobility device users and the doorways and hallways are generally quite wide.

If you are a wheelchair user or require other accommodations such as blind/low-vision or anything else, and you are not sure whether we can accommodate you - please don’t hesitate to get in touch with myself or the clinic (info@originwellness.ca).
